Hello! I’m Jennifer

I’m a Certified Canadian Counsellor, EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Certified EMDR Therapist, Trauma Treatment Specialist, Registered Canadian Art Therapist, and a Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator.

Over the past 10 years, I have worked in a diverse range of settings and cultural contexts as a clinician, consultant and trainer. In addition to my private practice as a trauma therapist and EMDR consultant, I currently work as a trauma advisor and trainer for an international women’s organization called medica mondiale, based in Germany. In this role, I work with health professionals in conflict-affected countries – such as Iraq and Afghanistan – on the implementation of trauma-sensitive health care for survivors of war rape and gender-based violence. Due to the context of conflict, we also focus on vicarious traumatization and building self-care and community-care practices.

Before my work with medica mondiale, I established a private practice in Hanoi, Vietnam working with a diverse client base, including expatriates and Vietnamese clients, as well as at an international hospital. I was also the clinical supervisor for Blue Dragon, a Vietnamese organization working with survivors of human trafficking. Before that I spent five-years in northern Canada – working with Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals, families and communities affected by complex and intergenerational trauma. I received close mentorship and training on Indigenous psychotherapy and traditional healing practices. These teachings continue to shape my approach to trauma recovery and cross-cultural practices, especially when working in non-Western contexts.

My Approach and Clinical Specializations

As a trauma specialist, consultant and trainer, I work collaboratively with clients and organizations to help individuals regain a sense of safety and stability in the present, to heal emotional and psychological issues from the past, and to actively take steps that enhance current and future well being.

I believe an essential part of being trauma-informed is offering my clients experinces that are the opposite of trauma dynamics: I offer relational safety, choice, empowerment, predictability, transparency and respect. I aim to build-on the strengths and resilience of my clients through our work together while honouring their resources and sense of self-determination.
